No word on an A&M starting quarterback -- yet
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M hasn't named a starting quarterback for today's game against Miami, but early preparation would seem to indicate that Coach Mike Sherman will be going with backup Jerrod Johnson.
The Aggies' quarterback situation was thrown into flux when starter Stephen McGee sustained a sprained shoulder early in the Aggies' most recent game -- a 28-22 victory at New Mexico on Sept. 6. Johnson replaced him after the first series and directed A&M to the victory, throwing three touchdown passes.
When A&M quarterbacks started their pre-game practice about 30 minutes ago, McGee didn't take the field. Johnson was throwing deep balls to streaking receivers, while McGee tried a couple of short passes along the sideline and didn't even take the field. Still no definitive answers, but it would seem that Johnson is the likely starter.
