Oklahoma defense keeping them ahead despite Bradford

DALLAS -- The Sooners have accounted for the loss of Sam Bradford with a smashing defensive performance.

Texas is 0-for-5 on third-down conversions as Oklahoma has claimed a 6-0 lead.

The Longhorns have averaged 12 yards on those five third-down plays and failed on each one.

Texas must do a better job of protecting quarterback Colt McCoy, who has been pressured on nearly every throw. McCoy is 5-for-12 for 23 yards and has been sacked three times.

The game has been a hard-hitting affair from the beginning. Jeremy Beal was flagged for a late hit along the Texas sideline on the first Texas play from scrimmage. Texas safety Earl Thomas, who was not wearing his helmet, was knocked to the ground on the play.

But Thomas returned to play on the first play of Oklahoma's next offensive possession and has been in every snap so far.
