All things considered, a rough week for the Big 12 on Saturday, but it wasn't the only league that suffered embarrassing losses. Arkansas went down to Louisiana-Monroe, the Pac-12 suffered an FCS loss and one of the Big Ten favorites, Wisconsin, inexplicably got shut down by Oregon State. Weird. Let's take a look at what's on tap for Week 3 in the Big 12.
There are still plenty of snoozers left, but Big 12 play officially gets started in Week 3. Give the advantage to the SEC on this one when it comes to league debuts. The SEC gave Missouri and Texas A&M openers against solid teams with big brands and let them open at home. TCU has to go to Kansas for its first game? Not the best welcome to Big 12 play, besides the Frogs' likelihood of logging a win.
We also get the only matchup of the regular season between college football's top two leagues. Texas travels to The Grove in Oxford to face the Ole Miss Rebels, who rolled over UTEP on Saturday, 28-10, including a 21-0 halftime lead. Oklahoma struggled with the Miners; how will a young Texas team fare in its first road test?
It's tough to get very excited about FCS matchups, but in a slow week for the Big 12, Baylor-Sam Houston State is at least a little intriguing. The Bearkats played for a national title a year ago. Baylor looked strong in its opener against SMU, but a bad outing by the Bears could make this one interesting.
Oklahoma State gets right back at it with Louisiana-Lafayette in town. A bye week right now would have been timed horribly for the Cowboys, but there are a ton early in the season. Oklahoma only plays one game between last Saturday and Oct. 6. The Pokes need a confidence boost, and a good game against the Cajuns may provide it.
Overall, a terrible slate of games this week. The first two weeks had some OK contests, but this week is pretty, well, weak. There's a decent chance we don't see a game decided by fewer than two touchdowns in Week 3.
