If you look down the schedule and see an FCS opponent, the unstated goal ought to be no drama.

Mission accomplished for Iowa State, which dominated Western Illinois from start to finish in their 37-3 win to cap their nonconference slate.

Last week's 9-6 road win over Iowa featured plenty of drama, but this week, Iowa State's James White broke a 56-yard run early in the first quarter and the Cyclones never looked back.

Steele Jantz finished a healthy 19-of-26 for 209 yards with three touchdown passes and an interception.

After three quarters, it was 31-0 Iowa State, and that's pretty much all you need to know.

Iowa State outgained the Leathernecks, 504-178, and earned a convincing win, despite losing the turnover battle, 3-0. This one could have been even worse.

The Cyclones are 3-0 after a pretty solid slate of nonconference games, but after a bye week next week, we'll start to learn just how good this team is.

Iowa is not a good Big Ten team. Tulsa's a decent C-USA team, but the Golden Hurricane are ... still a C-USA team.

ISU opens Big 12 play against Texas Tech at home in two weeks, a team the Cyclones have beaten by double digits in each of the past two seasons.

After that, a road trip to TCU in a game that looks winnable if the Frogs play the way they did today as 20-6 winners at Kansas.

Could 5-0 become a reality? Stranger things have happened ...
