Not everybody can earn a helmet sticker or get mentioned in Monday's weekend rewind. Still, they deserve recognition. Time to pass out a few game balls.
Ty Zimmerman, S, Kansas State: Zimmerman had a huge day in Kansas State's 24-19 win over Oklahoma, but was overshadowed by a whole lot of other big storylines in Norman. Zimmerman made just three tackles, but that's a good sign for the Sooners' pass-heavy offense. One of his tackles was for a loss of two yards. He broke up two passes, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. Nice.
James Sims, RB, Kansas: Sims returned from a three-game suspension and made his presence known pretty quickly. He raced through the Northern Illinois defense for a 26-yard touchdown run in the first half and finished with 91 yards for the Jayhawks. Charlie Weis said despite Sims' suspension, he was making it clear that he was the team's best back. So far, he'd been glued to the scout team. Tony Pierson is flashier, and a bit more exciting, but Sims proved he's still going to have a huge role in the Jayhawks' offense. Deservedly so.
Nick Florence, QB, Baylor: Florence threw two early interceptions and his night in Funroe looked like absolutely no fun at all. Credit the senior for settling down. He didn't turn it over the rest of the night and rallied from an early 21-7 deficit to throw for 351 yards and four touchdowns on 26-of-39 passing. That was an underrated atmosphere in Baylor's 47-42 win over Louisiana-Monroe, and I absolutely agree with Art Briles: It got the Bears ready for Big 12 play more than you'd think.
