Kansas State escapes Ames with win

Kansas State has spent the past season and a half proving it knows how to win close games, and we saw it again in Ames on Saturday.
Leading by just three, Kansas State took eight minutes off the clock and converted three third downs en route to a field goal, providing the 27-21 final score in Saturday's win in Ames.
Facing a 3rd-and-4, the Kansas State defense got the job done with a pair of stops to seal the game, moving to 10-1 in games decided by one possession since the beginning of 2011.
Kansas State continues to do what Kansas State does, though it made a handful of uncharacteristic mistakes throughout Saturday's game. A questionable pass interference flag kept Iowa State's final touchdown drive alive inside the five-yard line and was one of six penalties on the day for the Wildcats.
Before today, Kansas State had nine penalties in five games.
Saturday was scary, but Kansas State came away with a win, and did it in just the fashion Wildcats fans have become accustomed.
The past four Farmageddons have been decided by one possession, and today was the physical, tight game most expected.
Much of that was thanks to a strong defensive effort from Iowa State, which held Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein to just 187 yards on 16-of-24 passing and 105 yards on 25 carries, though Klein rushed for three scores.
Iowa State is good enough to beat any team in the Big 12, but Kansas State used its experience and made the plays late to make sure that on this day they would not be yet another giant to fall victim to Iowa State.
