Big 12 game picks rewind: Week 9

In this space each week, we'll rehash the previous week's game predictions. It could be ugly some weeks, others could be quite sweet on my end.

Either way, we'll examine the carnage every week. This week? Well, not my best work, I'd say.

Here's how I did in Week 9:

Record: 2-3 (.400)

Overall: 39-14 (.736)

My pick: Texas 44, Kansas 17

Actual score: Texas 21, Kansas 17

  • Hindsight: Credit the KU defense here. It gave Texas' offense fits and forced the Longhorns to fire up some heroics to escape Lawrence with a win. I thought KU would be able to move the ball about as well as it did, but I expected Texas' offense to roll.

My pick: TCU 34, Oklahoma State 31

Actual score: Oklahoma State 36, TCU 14

  • Hindsight: I was feeling pretty good about this pick when Wes Lunt looked rusty early and TCU took a 14-0 lead. That's basically exactly what I picked. The TCU offense stalled the rest of the game and OSU's defense stepped up while Lunt got into a groove. I whiffed here.

My pick: Kansas State 31, Texas Tech 24

Actual score: Kansas State 55, Texas Tech 24

  • Hindsight: Obviously my expectations for the Tech offense/K-State defense was on par, but I never thought K-State would make Tech's defense look as bad as it did in the second half. That was really, really impressive. It also earned a defensive TD from an Arthur Brown interception.

My pick: Baylor 38, Iowa State 34

Actual score: Iowa State 35, Baylor 21

  • Hindsight: Just whiffed here. Baylor's back was against the wall, and I thought the Bears' talented receivers would be able to carry them to a win. Nope. Credit to the Iowa State defense here. What a performance, especially Jake Knott in what might be his final game at Iowa State.

My pick: Oklahoma 31, Notre Dame 21

Actual score: Notre Dame 30, Oklahoma 13

  • Hindsight: This was closer than the final score indicated, but I thought Oklahoma's offense would get the best of what I believed was an overrated Notre Dame defense. Nope. I was impressed with the Irish, who won despite giving up their first rushing TD of the season.

Much better week in Week 8. What would you grade my picks this time around?
