Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones, Texas Tech running back Baron Batch, Nebraska defensive tackle Jared Crick and Kansas State return specialist Brandon Banks have been selected as the Big 12's weekly players of the week by a media panel. Jones was picked for the second time this season, while Batch and Crick were selected for the first times in their career.
Banks earned his third award of the season and the fourth of his career.
Here's a look at what each of the players accomplished to earn this designation.
BIG 12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Oklahoma QB Landry Jones, Fr., Artesia, N.M.
He completed 26-of-37 passes for 294 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Oklahoma’s 42-30 win over Kansas State. KSU closed Oklahoma’s lead to five points twice in the fourth quarter and both times Jones directed scoring drives to extend the Sooners' lead, completing 14 consecutive passes on those scoring drives of 67 and 68 yards.
Texas Tech RB Baron Batch, Jr., Midland, Texas
Batch scored four touchdowns on the ground, including three in the fourth quarter as the Red Raiders scored 28 points in the final period to spark a 42-21 comeback over Kansas. Batch produced a career-best 123 yards on 17 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per rush. The 100-yard game was his second of the season. He scored on runs of 2, 1, 17 and 11 yards while also catching five passes.
BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nebraska DT Jared Crick, So., Cozad, Neb.
Crick totaled 13 tackles, including 10 unassisted stops, five sacks and two others for loss in Nebraska’s 20-10 win at Iowa State. Crick also broke up a pass and recovered a fumble. His five sacks set a single-game Nebraska school record, bettering four sacks on five previous occasions. The sack total is also the most by any player in the nation this season.
Crick’s seven tackles for loss tied a Nebraska school record, set 24 years ago by Jim Skow vs. Missouri. His 13 total tackles are the most by a Nebraska player this season. Crick leads the team with 8.5 sacks and has 13 tackles for loss to tie Ndamukong Suh for the team lead. His 49 total tackles also are tied for the team lead with Suh.
BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kansas State WR/KR Brandon Banks, Kansas State, Sr., Garner, N.C. (Bakersfield College)
Banks recorded his Big 12-record fourth kickoff return for a touchdown at Oklahoma. The 98-yard return in the fourth quarter pulled the Cats to within 35-30 of the Sooners. Banks’ four kick returns for scores this season are one shy of the NCAA single-season record of five and his five career TD’s are one shy of the NCAA career record of six, set by three individuals. Banks had 351 all-purpose yards (156 receiving and 195 kick return) last Saturday, which tied a school record and tied for fifth in Big 12 history. The 351 all-purpose yards were also the most in the Big 12 and the nation this season. Banks leads the Big 12 in kick-return yards (953), kick-return average (31.8) and kick-return TDs (4), and his current career kick return average of 30.2 yards is first in K-State history and sixth in Big 12 history.
