Texas Tech quarterback Steven Sheffield apparently will be out of action longer than originally diagnosed.

Citing unnamed sources, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports that Sheffield could miss up to six weeks with a broken left foot.

Sheffield sustained the injury against Nebraska on Oct. 17 and had surgery two weeks ago.

Sources originally thought that Sheffield could return to action in two weeks. But the Avalanche-Journal said that prognosis was overly optimistic.

Since Sheffield's injury, Taylor Potts started a loss against Texas A&M on Oct. 24 and redshirt freshman Seth Doege started Saturday against Kansas. After struggling in a first half marked by turnovers and sacks, Potts came off the bench to direct a rally against the Jayhawks.

The Red Raiders are off this week with their next game Nov. 14 at Oklahoma State. Sheffield is expected to need at least a week to get acclimated in the offense.

It should be an interesting week of practice for the Red Raiders with Potts likely set to be the starter against the Cowboys.
