Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said he wasn't surprised when Bobby Reid decided to transfer to Division I-AA Texas Southern over the offseason.

Reid was the subject of Gundy's infamous rant last season, where he supported his player after he had been benched and ripped an (Oklahoma City) Daily Oklahoman columnist in the process. Reid never returned to the starting lineup as a quarterback last season after Gundy's tirade.

"He did what was best for him. I don't think there was any question he was going to leave," Gundy said. "I think there were questions whether he was going to go to the NFL or try to play somewhere else."

Reid struggled with injuries and inconsistent play throughout his time with the Cowboys. He ended up as a wide receiver last season after Zac Robinson was inserted into the starting lineup.

Reid has one year of college eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately at Texas Southern, which is in his hometown. He told ESPN.com earlier this year that Gundy's rant "basically ended his life."

But Gundy took the high road Tuesday when he discussed Reid's transfer, saying he could continue playing professional football with future development.

"We at Oklahoma State, myself personally, hope things go well for him," Gundy said. "I think he has great potential, and if he continues to develop he can play for awhile."
