Texas sophomore receiver Cayleb Jones has been charged with felony aggravated assault of a Longhorns tennis player.
According to an Austin police affidavit, Jones is being charged with assaulting the tennis player at a downtown bar around 1:50 a.m. local time on Feb. 22.
A police investigation found that the tennis player, sophomore Joey Swaysland, was speaking with Katherine "Khat" Bell, a Longhorns volleyball player who previously dated Jones, at the Club Aquarium on 403 E 6th Street.
"This conversation upset the suspect," the affidavit reads. "While both victim and witness were conversing, the suspect decided to punch the victim one time with a closed fist to the victim's face on his right side."
Jones was reportedly emerging as a big target in the Longhorns' passing game this spring, but he's not going to be returning to the practice field for a while after the incident. He's been suspended from practice and all team activities until the legal process plays out.
