Here are some statistical trends that caught my attention across the conference this week.

Who's hot: Big 12 underdogs. Four of them won last week -- Baylor, Colorado, Kansas State and Nebraska.

Who's not: Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman’s strategy against Colorado. Why did he go for a first down on a fourth-and-short early in the game and then go for a field goal in a virtually identical situation late in the fourth quarter?

Hot: Nebraska’s defense, which has allowed seven fourth-quarter points in its last six games.

Not: Nebraska’s offense, which punted 11 times, went 1-for-14 on third-down conversions and had more penalties (11) than first downs (7) against Oklahoma.

Hot: Texas’ defense, which produced six sacks -- all by different players -- in the Longhorns’ victory over UCF.

Not: Baylor’s defense, which has forced three turnovers in five Big 12 games.

Hot: Nebraska RB Roy Helu Jr., who accounted for 153 yards against Oklahoma -- 138 yards on 20 carries and three catches for 15 yards.

Not: The rest of the Nebraska offense against Oklahoma, producing 27 total yards on the other 34 snaps.

Hot: Kansas State, which has rushed for at least 200 yards in five games this season for the first time since 2005.

Not: Kansas State’s passing game, which has produced less than 100 yards in two of the last three games.

Hot: Baylor quarterback Nick Florence, who threw for a school-record 427 yards and three touchdowns to beat Missouri. Coming into the game, Florence had thrown two career touchdown passes in his previous 147 passes.

Not: Oklahoma’s turnover struggles. The Sooners committed 10 turnovers in 14 games last season. This season, Oklahoma has coughed up 19 turnovers in nine games.
