Friday, I unveiled my Future Power Rankings in the Big 12, a projection of how the league will do over the next three years.

A three-year cumulative ranking is an interesting metric. I mentioned how a few teams did in my rankings, but what did the last three years of the Big 12 look like?

For obvious reasons, I'm leaving West Virginia and TCU out of this discussion. Their total wins and conference records are irrelevant to the Big 12.

OVERALL RECORD
  1. Oklahoma: 32-8 (10-3, 10-3, 12-2)
  2. Oklahoma State: 31-8 (8-5, 12-1, 11-2)
  3. Kansas State: 28-11 (11-2, 10-3, 7-6)
  4. Baylor: 25-14 (8-5, 10-3, 7-6)
  5. Texas: 22-16 (9-4, 8-5, 5-7)
  6. Texas Tech: 21-17 (8-5, 5-7, 8-5)
  7. Iowa State: 17-21 (6-7, 6-7, 5-7)
  8. Kansas: 6-30 (1-11, 2-10, 3-9)
CONFERENCE RECORD
  1. Oklahoma: 20-6 (8-1, 6-3, 6-2)
  2. Oklahoma State: 19-7 (5-4, 8-1, 6-2)
  3. Kansas State: 18-8 (8-1, 7-2, 3-5)
  4. Baylor: 14-12 (4-5, 6-3, 4-4)
  5. Texas: 11-15 (5-4, 4-5, 2-6)
  6. Iowa State: 9-17 (3-6, 3-6, 3-5)
  7. Texas Tech: 9-17 (4-5, 2-7, 3-5)
  8. Kansas: 1-25 (0-9, 0-9, 1-7)

  • Texas' three-year stretch has been the worst of Mack Brown's tenure at Texas, and it's no surprise to see them muddled in the middle of the rest of the league. Remarkable that Kansas State has locked in a place as a top-three Big 12 team over the past three years, even with a 7-6 season mixed in there.
  • Did anyone else figure Baylor as the best Big 12 team in Texas over the past three years? For the curious, Texas A&M was 17-10 in its final two years in the Big 12, with a 10-7 mark in Big 12 play. Definitely a little jarring to see Texas Tech as far down as it is. I gave Iowa State the nod ahead of Tech in the three-year rankings because it's gone 2-1 against the Red Raiders over that span.
  • Oklahoma's one win that gave it the edge over Oklahoma State? The Big 12 title game back in 2010, when the Sooners sent Nebraska off to the Big Ten without a Big 12 title trophy. Oklahoma has won two of three games in the past three years against the Cowboys, though.
  • For the curious: TCU was 31-8 over the past three years, the same mark as Oklahoma State. The Frogs were 15-0 in Mountain West play and 4-5 in Big 12 play last year.
  • West Virginia, meanwhile, was 26-13 in the past three seasons with a 10-4 record in Big East play and a 5-4 record in the Big 12.
