COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas cornerback Deon Beasley returned to the sideline and the Texas locker room after the game after he was briefly hospitalized after a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit earlier in the game.

Beasley was knocked down after he collided with Texas A&M linebacker Anthony Lewis on a kickoff in the third quarter. Beasley remained down for more than 8 minutes before he was carted off the field.

His teammates awarded him the game ball after their 49-39 victory.

“Deon Beasley is OK,” Texas coach Mack Brown said. “He was walking around in the locker room. We gave him the game ball because the kids were so worried about him when he was down on the field.”

Beasley is a backup cornerback who is a critical player for the Longhorns on their special teams.

Brown said his status for next week’s Big 12 championship game against Nebraska is uncertain.

“I didn’t ask them about playing next week or not,” Brown said. “But he was back with us.”
