Baylor made a preemptive move Wednesday to keep head football coach Art Briles in Waco for the long term:
Briles has reached a new 10-year deal with the school, a source confirmed to ESPN's Joe Schad.
The deal will put him in the top third of Big 12 coaches in average annual pay, the source said.
The new contract will go into effect after this season, according to an Associated Press source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the private university does not release contract details.
This was a move Baylor had to make. Briles, obviously, will be a hot commodity for other schools during the offseason. With this new contract, luring him out of Waco will be all the more difficult.
