In the spring, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy found out how difficult it can be juggling snaps among three quarterback. This week, Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury found out the same, as Baker Mayfield revealed his intentions to transfer:
Mayfield called Kliff Kingsbury on Tuesday, then met with the coach in person Wednesday, reaffirming Kingsbury of his decision to transfer, a source close to Mayfield confirmed to ESPN.com.
On Wednesday night, Mayfield told YNN-TV in his hometown of Austin, Texas, that he was transferring due to a "miscommunication" with the Texas Tech coaching staff.
For the second straight season, a Big 12 team lost a promising true freshman quarterback. Last year it was Oklahoma State's Wes Lunt. Now, it's Mayfield. The good news for the Red Raiders is they have quarterback depth. Davis Webb had a promising true freshman season, too. And Michael Brewer probably would have been the starter had he not suffered a back injury in the summer. Those two will battle to see who starts in the National University Holiday Bowl against Arizona State on Dec. 30.
