TCU has a new offensive coordinator:
Doug Meacham, 49, comes to TCU from Houston, where he was the Cougars' play-caller this season, his only season there. With Meacham as coordinator, Houston ranked 35th nationally in scoring, averaging almost 34 points per game.

Before Houston, Meacham was an offensive assistant coach for eight seasons at Oklahoma State, his alma mater.

"Our goal is to remain a physical football team," TCU coach Gary Patterson said in a release. "Coach Meacham was part of an Oklahoma State system that was highly successful throwing the football, and he continued that in his one year at Houston. I'm real excited about the kind of person coach Meacham is and how well he fits our staff."

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that TCU's former co-offensive coordinators, Rusty Burns and Jarrett Anderson, have been offered other positions on the staff.

The Horned Frogs have struggled offensively since ex-offensive coordinator Justin Fuente took the head coaching job at Memphis after the 2011 season. TCU ranked ninth in the Big 12 in total offense this season, and eighth in 2012.
The last two seasons, TCU has had a Big 12 championship-caliber defense. The offense, however, has kept the Horned Frogs from being a contender in their two years in the league. This was a move Patterson had to make. And one, he hopes, will ultimately jump-start TCU into contender status in the Big 12.
