LUBBOCK, Texas -- I've seen a lot of wild plays before, but nothing nearly as dramatic as Graham Harrell's 28-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree with one second left that gave Texas Tech a 39-33 victory over No. 1 Texas.
Harrell completed five of six passes in the game winning drive, which took 1:28 and came after Colt McCoy had led Texas to their first lead of the game.
Crabtree beat Texas tacklers Curtis Brown and Earl Thomas deep along the sideline before scooting past them for the score as Tech fans charged the field.
That resulted in two penalties and a kickoff from the Tech 7 yard line on the final play. But the Red Raiders held on to claim their first victory over a No. 1 team in school history.
Vondrell McGee's 5-yard run with 1:29 tied the score. And Hunter Lawrence's extra point gave the Longhorns the lead for the first time in the game.
McCoy had directed touchdowns in his final three possessions to lead Texas back from an early 19-0 deficit.
Harrell's big finish came after Tech had failed to score an offensive touchdowns on its first six possessions of the second half. But he finished by hitting 36 of 53 passes for 474 yards.
Now, the Red Raiders appear to be in the driver's seat for the South Division title, although they still have tough games in front of them: home against Oklahoma State next week, at Oklahoma, then home against Baylor to finish the season.
