New Kansas coach Turner Gill has wasted little time in attracting his first recruiting commitment.

The Kansas City Star reports that Gill received the commitment from safety Ray Mitchell of Irving, Texas -- less than a week after Gill was hired.

Mitchell was among eight recruits who visited the Kansas campus over the weekend. He picked the Jayhawks from a crowded recruiting field that also included Iowa State, Tulsa, UTEP, UNLV and Wyoming.

It's a significant get for the Jayhawks. And it proved that Gill wasn't just providing lip service when he mentioned recruiting four times among his first seven priorities for the program.

Mitchell becomes the 15th commitment in the 2010 recruiting class for the Jayhawks.
