Texas A&M added some needed quarterback depth when former SMU quarterback Winston Gamso announced he will walk-on with the Aggies, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Gamso will join the Aggies in January, so he can participate in spring football drills with them.

"It seems like the people there are the right type of people I want to be around for the next four years," Gamso told the News. "It feels like the right school, and if football doesn't work out, then I know at A&M I'll be very happy."

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Gamso directed Dallas Highland Park to the 2007 Texas State 4A championship game. He would appear to be a natural fit in coach Mike Sherman's offense.

"They don't have very many people right now so they're in dire need for quarterbacks, which is really nice," Gamso said.

Obviously, junior-to-be Jerrod Johnson is in line to be Texas A&M's starter for the next two seasons. And after that Ryan Tannehill was presumed to be a likely quarterback contender, despite his success at wide receiver this season.

It will be interesting to see if Gamso's development could lead to the full-time switch of Tannehill to wide receiver -- particularly after Tannehill produced team-leading totals of 55 receptions and 844 receiving yards as a freshman.
