MIAMI -- Both teams have delivered some ferocious early hits in an early 0-0 deadlock.
Oklahoma received the first break of the game, but couldn't do anything with it after Nic Harris' interception -- the first by Tebow in more than six games.
But the Sooners couldn't make anything of the break after a pair of holding penalties on Oklahoma guard Duke Robinson. His second one wiped out a 37-yard pass from Sam Bradford to Jermaine Gresham that would have given Oklahoma a first down at the Florida 11.
The Gators delivered some devastating hits on the first series, showing this game will be a physical battle from the opening whistle.
Oklahoma wide receiver Manny Johnson was blown up deep along the left sideline by Major Wright on the third play of the game. But Johnson rebounded from the big hit to produce three catches in the quarter.
But Tebow has struggled with a couple of reckless passes and was lucky he wasn't intercepted again late in the first quarter.
Frank Alexander started at defensive end and Mike Balogun was the starter in the middle. Both played throughout the first half, although Balogun was isolated on a 21-yard gain late in the quarter that pushed Florida to the Oklahoma 21.
That late drive enabled Florida to claim a 95-63 edge in total yardage in the first quarter. But both teams appear able to move the ball on the opposing defense.
