Signs of life for Longhorns in Austin
By David Ubben
The Texas fans were booing, but Garrett Gilbert quickly quieted them with a six-play, 80-yard drive, highlighted by a 38-yard run from Gilbert and capped by a 17-yard touchdown pass to John Chiles.
Iowa State leads Texas, 28-14, after Gilbert ran in the two-point conversion.
The Longhorns needed a spark, and that might be it. With 12 minutes left, a two-score deficit isn't impossible to overcome, especially if the offense plays like it did on that drive.
Gilbert's 38-yard run was sandwiched around a pair of completions for a total of 25 yards to Chiles and freshman Mike Davis.
Without a few defensive stops, though, it won't matter. If Iowa State scores again and makes this a three-possession game, Texas is almost certainly dropping to 4-3 with a loss.
