Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jarvis Humphrey will be leaving the Texas team because of a recurring kidney ailment that was revealed in a pre-camp physical examination last season.
Humphrey, a 6-foot-2, 305-pounder from Cedar Hill, Texas, was one of the most heralded recruits in the class of 2008. He was ranked by Scouts Inc. as the nation's 66th best prospect and the nation's fifth best defensive tackle.
"Jarvis is a great young man," Texas coach Mack Brown said. "His health is our No. 1 priority and has been since the condition was identified when he arrived at Texas. We will continue to help him any way we can."
Humphrey redshirted last season and did not participate in the Longhorns' 2009 spring practice because of the ailment.
