WACO, Texas -- Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner wasted little time taking control, completing 12 of his first 13 passes to help stake the Demon Deacons to a 17-0 lead 37 seconds into the second quarter.
Baylor was unable to muster any kind of pressure on Skinner, who made it looked like he was throwing against little defense in his quick start.
Wake Forest took advantage of two three-and-out possessions by the Bears to stake themselves to a field goal and touchdown on their first two drives.
Sam Swank drilled a 40-yard field goal to cap the first drive, a six-play, 13-yard possession.
After another struggling Baylor possession, Wake Forest marched 62 yards for another score. The 12-play drive was capped on a 12-yard pass from Skinner to Chip Brinkman.
And after Baylor whiffed on a fumble recovery, the Demon Deacons rambled 48 yards on 11 plays, capped by a 3-yard TD run by Brandon Pendergrass.
After three Baylor possessions and only one first down in the first quarter, freshman quarterback Robert Griffin was installed for the Bears on their first possession of the second quarter.
