He came with plenty of fanfare, but it looks like running back Bryce Brown will leave Kansas State quietly.

Brown has withdrawn from school and is strongly leaning toward entering the NFL draft, sources told colleague Joe Schad.

He left the team in midseason after struggling early, losing a crucial fumble in the season opener against Eastern Kentucky and carrying the ball just three times.

Brown has not formally informed Kansas State of his intent to play professional football, but has had little communication with the school since he left, sources said.

Brown originally signed with Tennessee in 2009 as the nation's No. 8 overall recruit and No. 2 running back, behind only Alabama's Trent Richardson. He transferred to Kansas State after the 2009 season and sat out the 2010 season.

Waco, Texas, native John Hubert grabbed hold of the starting job early in 2011, rushing for 970 yards and three touchdowns.

Brown's brother, Arthur Brown, transferred from Miami after the 2009 season, but emerged as Kansas State's top defender in 2011, leading the team with 101 tackles.
