Colleague Ryan McGee took a look at 10 teams who could benefit from their schedules Insider in 2012, and one Big 12 team made the list.

Texas.

Yes, the Big 12 schedule isn't out yet, but we know a good percentage of who Texas will be playing, just not when.
Again, if you make want to make a big move early in the year, then you need to come in a little lower in the rankings. The Longhorns are coming off a forgettable 8-5 campaign and are certain to open the season on the lowest rungs of the preseason Top 25. If they take care of business against Wyoming in the opener, matchups with dreadful New Mexico and Ole Miss will lead to a 3-0 start and a reputation-fueled big move up the polls.

Texas notched wins against BYU and UCLA, but both teams proved mediocre late in the season. Wyoming could be a sneaky test, but Ole Miss is handling a regime change after a two-win season in 2011. Don't expect to hear the SEC chant in Oxford at the end of that one.

Texas and Oklahoma will play on Oct. 6, and like 2011, that will probably be the first big test at how far Texas has come. The Longhorns, by way of a 55-17 loss, failed that test in their eight-win season.

Could next year be different?
