DALLAS -- Just when Texas needed a big play, the Longhorns' special teams provided two of them after sleepwalking offensively through most of the first half.

Two fumble recoveries on special teams have pulled the Longhorns back into the game after struggling offensively in an uncharacteristically lethargic performance.

Aaron Williams' fumble recovery set up a 42-yard field goal by Hunter Lawrence, pulling the Longhorns within 6-3 with 3:42 left in the first half.

And Emmanuel Acho recovered Mossis Madu's fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the Oklahoma 42. But the Longhorns were unable to score on that drive when Colt McCoy fumbled fighting for extra yardage into the end zone where Dominque Franks recovered in the end zone.

After Oklahoma had stopped Texas for the sixth straight time in the first half, the Longhorns were forced to punt.

Franks lost possession of Justin Tucker's bouncing punt at the Oklahoma 25 when he was hit by Deon Beasley. Malcolm Williams pounced on the ball at the Oklahoma 15 and barely made it into the end zone.

Franks was ruled by officials not to have had possession, which gave the Longhorns the ball at the Oklahoma 18 after the muff.

Oklahoma's defense again rose to the occasion, holding the Sooners to only three points in the Longhorns' first possession in the red zone.
