Big 12 Game Balls: Week 2
By David Ubben
There are lots of great performances each week across the Big 12. We give the best helmet stickers. We mention the others in our weekend rewind. Yet, still more deserve recognition. For them, we reserve game balls. Players must win their game to be given helmet stickers. That's not the case with game balls.
John Hubert, RB, Kansas State: Hubert's day was overshadowed by Klein's excellence, but Miami had just as much trouble containing the Waco native in the Wildcats' backfield. He's undersized, but a hard runner, and it showed on Saturday. He finished with 106 yards and a touchdown on just 19 carries, averaging nearly six yards a carry. Credit Kansas State's offensive line who kept defenders away from Hubert, but once they got to him, Hubert ran through contact all day.
Josh Boyce, WR, TCU: Boyce caught touchdown passes of 66 and 12 yards in the second quarter of TCU's 56-0 Grambling State rout. He only had four catches on the day, but half of them went for scores and he finished with 102 yards. Not a bad return. Boyce came two yards short of a 1,000-yard receiving season a year ago. Here's betting he gets it this time around. Great start.
Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma: Stills has done his part to become Landry Jones' No. 1 target as a junior this season, despite plenty of other talented youngsters in his unit. He hauled in a game-high 10 catches for 120 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Stills needed to play big for the Sooners this year. So far, he's done it. He's topped 120 yards in both games so far this season, and caught touchdown passes in both Sooners wins, the latest a 69-13 win over Florida A&M.
