Weis foots bill for KU student tickets

By David Ubben

Charlie Weis wants a special atmosphere for his seniors' final home game.

He called for the KU fans to come out in force on his Twitter account earlier in the week, but now he's putting his money where his mouth is.

Any KU student that doesn't have pre-purchased tickets to Saturday's home finale against Iowa State can attend for free, thanks to Weis.

From the Jayhawks' release:
Students must enter through the student entrance, located on the Northeast side of Memorial Stadium. A valid KU Student ID must be presented upon entrance and seats are available on a first come basis. The student gates open two hours prior to kickoff. Weis will pay for all KU students without previously purchased tickets who arrive at the student entrance between 4-6 p.m., on a first come, first serve basis.

No doubt, it's a move that will be mocked by the most cynical among us, but the motivation for Weis is to send his seniors out in a big way, and -- ideally for Weis -- with a win that snaps the Jayhawks 19-game losing streak in Big 12 play.

Kudos.
