Connecticut coach Randy Edsall has hired Joe Moorhead as his new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Moorhead had served the same role at Akron the past two seasons.

Moorhead replaces Rob Ambrose, who left to take the head-coaching job at Towson State.

Akron was one of 17 FBS schools in 2008 to be ranked among the top 50 in rushing offense, passing offense, total offense and scoring offense. Moorhead ran a no-huddle, multiple offense for the Zips, who scored a win at Syracuse this season.

Before coming to Akron in 2004, Moorhead was an assistant coach at Georgetown from 2000 to 2003 and was a graduate assistant at Pittsburgh in 1998 and 1999. He played quarterback at Fordham.

The UConn offense needs an overhaul of its passing game, which was ineffective and turnover prone in '08. The Huskies will also need to find a replacement for Donald Brown, who left for the NFL after leading the nation in rushing.

Moorhead and Edsall will speak to the media this afternoon.
