The Big East would probably like to forget most of Week 1. The conference went 0-4 against FBS teams, losing each one of those matchups by double digits. Three of those defeats came on Big East home fields. If not for the ACC's own stink bomb, the Big East would be getting killed in the national media right now.

Hold your nose as we take a final look back at the league's opening weekend:

Best Game: 'Best' in this case is a very relative term. The four FCS matchups with Big East teams ended in predictable blowouts, while Louisville and Syracuse tried to set college football offenses back several years. I guess we'll go with Bowling Green-Pittsburgh, which at least had some drama for a while. Yuck.

Biggest play: Fresno State's Seyi Ajirotutu caught a 31-yard pass on third-and-23 against Rutgers in the fourth quarter of a 24-7 win. The score was 10-7 at the time, and if the Scarlet Knights had held, the game might have turned out differently.

Big Man on Campus (offense): West Virginia QB Pat White. There wasn't much left for White to prove in his stellar career, except maybe his arm strength and accuracy. After his five-touchdown performance, those questions have been answered -- at least until West Virginia goes to suddenly dangerous-looking East Carolina.

Big Man on Campus (defense): West Virginia LB Mortty Ivy. He came up with a big fumble recovery and later took an interception to the house to keep Villanova at bay.

Big Man on Campus (special teams): West Virginia K Pat McAfee. It's a clean sweep this week for the Mountaineers, as McAfee drilled a 52-yard field goal, added a 33-yarder, punted well and boomed his kickoffs into the end zone against Villanova.

Worst Hangover: Pittsburgh and Louisville (tie). Week 2 can't come soon enough for either of these two teams, who will be ripped on message boards and talk radio for the next several days.

Whoops: Cincinnati's mascot got hung up on a wire while parachuting into the stadium before the Eastern Kentucky game, then fell more than 20 feet to the ground. No one was injured, luckily.

On tap: Week 2

West Virginia at East Carolina: This got a whole lot more interesting with the Pirates' upset of Virginia Tech. Subplot: ECU coach Skip Holtz thought he had a chance at the West Virginia job last January before Bill Stewart was hired.

South Florida at Central Florida: USF has owned this series, but the defending Conference USA champs would like nothing better than to beat their I-4 rivals in the final game of this series.

Cincinnati at Oklahoma: Big opportunity for Cincinnati to prove itself and show the Big East can play.

Buffalo at Pittsburgh: Hopefully, confused NFL fans won't show up at Heinz Field looking for the Bills and Steelers.

Tennessee Tech at Louisville: The Cardinals won't score an offensive point against an FBS team until Sept. 17 against Kansas State. At the earliest.

Connecticut at Temple: Think Temple wants some revenge for that blown call in last year's game? The Owls might have the players to actually do something about it, too.

Akron at Syracuse: If the Orange doesn't beat the Zips, it may be looking at zip-and-12.
