I've been bracing you for the possibility, and now it's a reality in at least one early poll: No Big East teams made colleague Mark Schlabach's post-spring, way-too-early Top 25.
And you know what? I can't disagree. Not to sound like a broken record, but every league team has serious questions. There's a very good chance that the Big East will get shut out in The Associated Press and coaches' polls that come out in August.
It's not a huge deal, except that the farther back you start in college football, the harder it is to move up. So if a Big East team does take off and become a national title contender this season, it will have a difficult time catching teams that began the year in the top 10. Not that anybody's really worried about that.
Preseason polls are mostly guesswork anyway. I firmly believe at least two Big East teams will be in the Top 25 at the end of the season, and I think several could make appearances throughout the year. And, hey, league teams have the perfect "nobody-believes-in-us" motivation now.
Still, if you're a Big East fan, it won't be as much fun to read all the preseason magazines and prognostications this year.
