Big East predictions: Week 12

I had another mediocre week at 2-2 last week, but I've made my peace with it. This league is so unpredictable that I'm happy just to go .500 or better every week.

On to this week's picks:

Pittsburgh 27, South Florida 21: This is my game of the week. Check out my video post later this afternoon for a breakdown of this game and an explanation for my pick.

Syracuse 20, Connecticut 13: I'm staying in the front seat on the Orange bandwagon, even though they're 0-2 at home in the Big East. UConn has been even worse on the road, and the Huskies' lack of a credible passing threat means the Syracuse defense can load up against Jordan Todman. Surely the Orange won't finish unbeaten on the road and winless at home in league play, right?

West Virginia 21, Louisville 17: This is going to be a difficult game for the Mountaineers, and they'd better reach their all-important 21-point hurdle. Louisville is balanced enough on offense to do some things against the league's best defense. I wouldn't be at all surprise to see the Cardinals spring the (small) upset at home, but I'm betting that West Virginia finally figured some things out in the Cincinnati game.

Rutgers 17, Cincinnati 14: Toughest game to call this week. Both teams have lost three in a row. The Scarlet Knights' offense is a complete mess. The Bearcats' defense is atrocious. I'd rather gamble that Rutgers breaks off a big play or two, especially given how turnover-prone Cincinnati is and how Greg Schiano's teams have a penchant for scoring off other teams' mistakes. Either way, I doubt this one will be a work of art.

Last week: 2-2

Season results: 41-12 (77.4 percent)
