The preseason honors keep rolling in for South Florida defensive end George Selvie.
The senior, who was No. 1 on my Big East top 30 players list, is the only Big East player named to Phil Steele's first-team All-America list. Rutgers offensive tackle Anthony Davis and West Virginia running back Noel Devine made Steele's third team, while Cincinnati receiver Mardy Gilyard was a fourth-team selection.
Meanwhile, Matt Hayes of The Sporting News has come out with his list of the top 25 players in college football this season. No surprise that Tim Tebow is No. 1, followed by 2008 Heisman winner Sam Bradford. Selvie checks in at pretty lofty territory himself at No. 6.
"Forget about his injury-marred 2008," Hayes writes. "When healthy, he's a disruptive, unblockable force."
No other Big East player made Hayes' list. Selvie will get plenty of attention from offensive lines this season, and it's clear that he's entering 2009 as the face of this league.
