Is the recent trend of coaches starting their own Twitter pages a breakthough idea or just for twits? Let's examine what Tweets some of the Big East coaches have been offering up lately and then you can be the judge.
Bill Stewart, West Virginia: Stewart, who has by far the most followers of any Big East coach with 2,795, checked in this afternoon.
"I played golf today in Weirton, WV, and will be speaking tonight as part of the Mountaineer Athletic Club's Coaches Caravan"
Jim Leavitt, South Florida: Leavitt tweeted twice on Saturday, a day in which he attended the funeral for the slain brother of linebacker Kion Wilson.
"Just landed going to funeral long day appreciate each day!"
"Pouring down at the funeral talked to jason pierre paul will be in tampa on wed we are just getting started"
Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville: Kragthorpe isn't quite as prolific a Tweeter as Stewart or Leavitt and so far is only up to 38 followers. His last missive came on June 4.
"Headed up to Hubers tonight for the final Cardinal Caravan.looking forward to seeing all of you up there."
Doug Marrone, Syracuse: Marrone used Twitter a lot during his spring goodwill tour and even responded personally to fans. But on June 2, he wrote:
"Taking a break from Twitter. Thanks for all the support. Check out @suorangeempire for exclusive fb info. See you at the Dome in Sept."
Dave Wannstedt, Pittsburgh: The Panthers coach gave out the Web address for Pitt football camp registration on June 2. The day before, he wrote:
"With Tony Dorsett today for his McGuire Memorial Benefit. TD still giving back to Western Pa. in a big way. "
