It appears that Minnesota coach Tim Brewster likes to accentuate the positive.

According to Mike Hlas of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Brewster has his own blog and lists his coaching record as 113-61-1. That's Brewster's record if you count all the places where he was an assistant coach. His head-coaching record is 8-17.

Hlas earlier reported that last season's 55-0 loss to Iowa was kept out of parts of the 2009 Minnesota media guide. Hey, no sense spoiling a good time, right?

I didn't come here to pick on Brewster, whom I don't know at all. I just like the idea of creative editing for coaches. Football sports information types are used to trying to sell the glory of their programs in media guides and press releases even when the team stinks.

So I thought it would be fun to wonder how a Brewster-esque editing process could be applied to each Big East coach's bio. Probably something like this:

Randy Edsall, Connecticut

Bio reads: Built former I-AA program into annual postseason team, including last year's International Bowl. Won Big East title in 2007.

What's left out: Any passing statistics from the past three years. The fact that the Huskies were co-league champs in '07. All scores against West Virginia.

Brian Kelly, Cincinnati

Bio reads: Guided Cincinnati to 2009 Orange Bowl.

What's left out: The score of the Orange Bowl.

Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville

Bio reads: Lifted Tulsa from one of the nation's worst programs into an annual bowl contender and Conference USA champion.

What's left out: Any mention of his time at Louisville so far.

Jim Leavitt, South Florida

Bio reads: Coached South Florida to No. 2 national ranking in 2007 and No. 10 ranking in 2008.

What's left out: What happened the rest of the season both of those years.

Doug Marrone, Syracuse

Bio reads: Coached bowl teams at Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee and in the NFL playoffs with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.

What's left out: That he was an assistant on all those teams.

Greg Schiano, Rutgers

Bio reads: Has coached formerly moribund Rutgers to three straight bowl wins. Has won seven straight games.

What's left out: The names of those three bowls (Texas, International and Papajohns.com). Started last season 1-5.

Bill Stewart, West Virginia

Bio reads: Outcoached Bob Stoops and Oklahoma in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl and Butch Davis and North Carolina in the 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl.

What's left out: His 8-4 regular-season record.

Dave Wannstedt, Pittsburgh

Bio reads: Led Pitt to first nine-win season in 25 years and a Sun Bowl berth in 2008.

What's left out: Wannstedt's first three years at Pitt. All the stats from the Sun Bowl.

Now don't we all feel a little better?
