There will be a slew of stories soon about Jarrett Brown taking over for Pat White at West Virginia. Jack Bogaczyk has one in the Charleston Daily Mail.

"If people want to underrate our offense without Pat, they're making a mistake. I have the ability to throw very accurately. That's my strong point. Running was Pat's game, but I'm not a 5.2 (seconds) guy in the 40. I'm bigger, but I think I can surprise people with my speed."

• Louisville receiver Trent Guy had a lot to deal with last year. He got shot outside a club, and then the man he was named for got killed. C.L. Brown has the story in The Courier-Journal.

• The Sporting News ranks Cincinnati No. 46 and has a preview of the Bearcats here.

• New Hall of Famer Don McPherson took his place among the game's greats with his usual modesty, Bud Poliquin writes in the Syracuse Post-Standard.
