It's a good thing that Tuesday's mock draft by colleagues Pat Forde, Ivan Maisel and Mark Schlabach was merely fictional. Or else almost all Big East fans would be left watching lower-level football.
The draft was designed to whittle the FBS down to its top 40 teams. It was a fun exercise, and the guys had some tough choices to make. Unfortunately, West Virginia was the only Big East team represented, at No. 28.
I think the Mountaineers should have been higher, as they were taken behind Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. West Virginia has two BCS bowl victories this decade, which is two more than the Cowboys and Red Raiders combined.
I also would have found a way to include Pittsburgh with its strong tradition.
Do this draft again in 10 years, and I think a few more Big East programs would make the cut.
