Star defensive line recruit Ryne Giddins was among four South Florida players who were held out of practice today while they await final approval from the NCAA Clearinghouse, coach Jim Leavitt told reporters after tonight's practice.
The other three players are tight end Isaac Virgin, defensive end Julius Forte and running back Bradley Battles.
But the biggest name is clearly Giddins, who was the highest-rated recruit to sign with a Big East school this year, according to ESPN's Scouts Inc, which ranked him as the nation's fifth-best defensive end.
The Tampa Tribune's Brett Murphy writes that the NCAA concern over Giddins may involve some online classes he took to graduate from high school.
The Bulls have already had seven players from their 29-man class not meet NCAA requirements or gain acceptance into the school. Losing Giddins, though, would be the most severe setback of them all.
