Dion Lewis is maybe setting the bar too high for himself.
Pitt's true freshman has 131 yards rushing on 15 carries and has scored three times in the first half. Lewis has been almost the entire Panthers offense as they lead Youngstown State, 21-3.
There had been talk of a rotating committee of carries between Lewis and fellow freshmen Ray Graham and Chris Burns, but Lewis might be making sure that doesn't happen for awhile. True, Pitt should be able to run the ball at will against an overmatched FCS opponent, but it's still an impressive debut so far.
There hasn't been much to silence the Bill Stull critics yet. The senior quarterback is 6 of 9 but for just 44 yards, three of them coming on a late first-half touchdown toss to Lewis. Not a single catch by Jonathan Baldwin yet, which is silly.
But it's clear that Dave Wannstedt is happy to just run the ball as much as possible and get this game out of the way.
