The Todd Graham era at Pitt is underway in Pittsburgh, and the Panthers are up 7-0 early on Buffalo.
Graham has dubbed his offense "high-octane" and there has been much excitement about the offensive potential. There have only been three drives so far, but it is safe to say there has been a mixed bag.
The first drive went three and out after a nice return from Buddy Jackson gave the Panthers excellent field position. But the second ended with a 6-yard touchdown run from Zach Brown. Pitt actually has used a few two-back sets in the first few drives, with Ray Graham and Brown, something Graham promised to do. Devin Street and Mike Shanahan have each made catches. Graham also has been featured out of the backfield.
And just as important as the touchdown -- the offense averaged 15 seconds between plays on the scoring drive. That is exactly what Graham wants to see.
Tino Sunseri has been a bit inconsistent. He missed two wide-open receivers on each drive. Because Pitt had good field position on the two stalled drives, he also pooch punted twice. The first landed deep in Buffalo territory. The second was not as successful.
