Dustin Garrison got the West Virginia running game going in a gigantic way, rushing for 233 yards in the first half to get the Mountaineers a 38-10 lead on Bowling Green at halftime.
West Virginia had struggled to run the ball all season. Consider the entire team had 306 yards in the first four games of the season. But Garrison changed all that in a hurry, and Bowling Green was helpless to stop him. He already is the fifth freshman to run for over 200 yards in a game. The school record for rushing yards in a game is 337 by Kay-Jay Harris against East Carolina in 2004.
The Mountaineers gained 419 yards of total offense and 21 first downs. They also were able to capitalize on several Bowling Green turnovers, scoring 17 points off a fumble and two interceptions. Bowling Green actually led the game 7-0 but mistakes have been killer. The Falcons had four turnovers in the first half.
