The Big East has no favorites in the Heisman race at this point, but it is worth paying attention to what West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith does the rest of the way out.

West Virginia was off this past week, and returns to play Syracuse on Friday night. The Orange upset the Mountaineers last season, and Smith was 20-of-37 for 178 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. It was his worst game of the season. But Syracuse coach Doug Marrone had high praise for Smith on Monday, saying he has improved and has been a big reason why West Virginia is playing better on offense.

Smith still ranks No. 5 in the nation in total passing yards with 2,159 and No. 5 in passing yards per game (359.8). What is scary is this: coach Dana Holgorsen says Smith has not even reached his maximum potential. Stay tuned.
