After West Virginia and Rutgers lost this past weekend, you had to figure the news would not be good when it came time for ESPN Stats & Information to tabulate its weekly conference power rankings.
Indeed, the Big East took a hit and is now in danger of losing its grip on seventh place.
According to the latest rankings, the Big East lost 13.5 points from its rating last week. The league remains in seventh place but after inching to a near tie with the Mountain West, it now is well behind. And its lead on Conference USA is a little over four points.
The Big East actually ranks No. 8 in the AP and No. 6 in the computer rankings, according to the formula ESPN Stats & Information uses for its rankings.
