It now appears Big 12 expansion is on hold.
West Virginia had been set to join the league, but Joe Schad of ESPN reports there has been "hard lobbying" by Louisville to be included as a member. The Big 12 still is waiting on a decision from Missouri, which is expected to leave for the SEC. Amid reports that Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell lobbied Big 12 officials on behalf of Louisville, both West Virginia Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller issued statements on behalf of their state school.
Meanwhile, the Big East canceled a meeting with Mountain West and Conference USA officials, in which they were set to discuss the formation of a nationwide superconference.
