West Virginia enters Saturday's game at Auburn riding a five-game winning streak against the SEC.

What? How can a team from the little ol' Big East have such a superior record against the best conference in the history of the world (dripping sarcasm intended)?

True, the Mountaineers haven't faced some of the SEC's big dogs, like Florida, LSU or Alabama. But any time you beat the SEC as often as West Virginia has, it's something worth noting. Here's a closer look at the streak, which Bill Stewart's team will try to keep going this weekend:
  • Oct. 23, 2008: West Virginia 34, Auburn 17.

It was a down year for Auburn, to be sure. Still, everyone raved about the Tigers' defense ... until the Mountaineers rolled up 445 yards on it in Morgantown.
  • Oct. 20, 2007: West Virginia 38, Mississippi State 13.

The Mountaineers rolled past another SEC team at home. The Bulldogs would go on to finish 8-5, including a win over Alabama, and win the Liberty Bowl.
  • Oct. 7, 2006: West Virginia 42, Mississippi State 14.

OK, this was a bad Mississippi State team, one that went just 3-9. But again, the Bulldogs beat Alabama. And West Virginia posted this blowout in Starkville.
  • Jan. 2, 2006: West Virginia 38, Georgia 35.

The seminal victory for the newly-reformed Big East, as the Mountaineers totally stunned SEC champ Georgia with their speed and explosiveness in the Sugar Bowl.
  • Dec. 28, 2000: West Virginia 49, Ole Miss 38

Another victory over the SEC in the postseason, this time in the Music City Bowl. Ole Miss went just 7-5 but had a couple of pretty good players named Eli Manning and Deuce McAllister.

By the way, West Virginia averaged 40.2 points per game in those five wins against the SEC. But, of course, SEC defenses are too fast and tough for the Big East to handle.
