Providence County Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein said Friday he hopes to rule next week on West Virginia's motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought against it by the Big East in Rhode Island.

Lawyers for both sides argued Friday over whether Rhode Island had the proper jurisdiction to hear the case. There is another lawsuit proceeding in Morgantown, in which West Virginia sued the Big East in order to be able to join the Big 12 in time for the 2012 season. The Big East has filed a motion to dismiss that lawsuit as well. A hearing in that case is scheduled for Monday.

Silverstein said the arguments about the proper venue are a way for each side to claim "home-court advantage."
