West Virginia quarterback Jarrett Brown was knocked out of his team's 41-30 loss to Auburn late in the fourth quarter, but the injury does not appear to be serious.

Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart told reporters after the game that Brown hurt his left, non-throwing shoulder. He was replaced by true freshman Geno Smith.

"Jarrett is good; he just got whacked sideways,'' Stewart said. "I was going to play the young guy anyway.''

Brown has a little extra time to recover, as West Virginia is off this week and will resume play on Thursday, Oct. 1, when it hosts Colorado (1-2). The time off could also help linebacker Reed Williams (foot) and defensive lineman Scooter Berry (shoulder) get back in the lineup. They each missed the Auburn game.
