There's an advantage to not having any overwhelmingly good teams in your league. Almost every game is exciting. Think about the past couple of weeks: South-Florida-Kansas. Colorado-West Virginia. Baylor-Connecticut. Pittsburgh-Iowa. All those games came down to the final minute. Who needs boring 59-10 wins by a top 5 team?

I hope you note the twinge of sarcasm there. But conference games, which begin Friday, should be wildly unpredictable, close and entertaining.

Now let's back that thang up ...

Best Game: People who thought Connecticut always played boring football should have watched the 31-28 win over Baylor. Sure, Robert Griffin brought most of the excitement with his speed, but the Huskies made plenty of big plays themselves.

Biggest play: LeSean McCoy's 27-yard dash for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh's 21-20 victory over Iowa. The play came on third down, meaning if he hadn't converted, the Panthers might have had to settle for a field goal and an eventual loss. Instead, McCoy had his longest run of the season, giving Pitt some confidence after two shaky weeks.

Big Man on Campus (Offense): Louisville RB Victor Anderson. He's only about 5-foot-10, but the redshirt freshman stood tall with 176 yards and three scores in the Cardinals' 38-29 win over Kansas State last Wednesday.

Big Man on Campus (Defense): Pittsburgh DT Mick Williams. The entire Panthers' defensive line deserves credit for standing in against a tough Iowa offensive line and holding the Hawkeyes down in the fourth quarter. Special mention to Williams, who batted down a pass and made a remarkable effort against three blockers to come up with a sack when Pitt absolutely needed a stop late.

Big Man on Campus (Special Teams): Pittsburgh P Dave Brytus. It's not often that the punter comes to the interview room after a game, but Brytus was surrounded by reporters following his great day against Iowa. He averaged better than 47 yards on eight kicks but will be remembered for his coffin-corner 57-yarder that put Iowa on the 1 for its final drive and basically finished the game

Worst Hangover: West Virginia. The honeymoon is over for Bill Stewart after the Mountaineers' 17-14 overtime loss at Colorado. West "By God" Virginia has been West "God Awful" Virginia in its two games against major-college competition.

The Colossal Fish Sandwich at Primanti Bros.

Sidelines: The noon kickoff at Heinz Field was too early for me to visit any rocking tailgate parties, but I enjoyed my weekend in Pittsburgh nonetheless. Thanks for all the reader suggestions on places to eat and watch football.

I went to Primanti Bros. in the Strip District on Friday night and gorged myself on the Colossal Fish Sandwich. It was very accurately named, as the fish was the size of a whale and came topped with slaw and French fries. Very tasty stuff, and surprisingly inexpensive.

On Saturday night, I stopped by Church Brew Works on 35th and Liberty. I've been to places before that used to be old churches, but this was something different. This still looks exactly like a working house of worship, except for the huge vats of microbrew beer. Very cool place, especially for someone who spent 12 years in Catholic school. As Homer Simpson once said, "Mmm...sacrilicious."

Enough silliness. Let's look forward to Week 5, with games listed in descending order of significance.

Connecticut (4-0) at Louisville (2-1): Conference play opens Friday night with the rematch of the "Unfair Catch" game from last season. The Cardinals looked pretty good against Kansas State, and the winner of this early matchup could get an upper hand in the league race.

South Florida (4-0) at N.C. State (2-2): What looked like a possible trap game for the Bulls suddenly seems much more dangerous after the Wolfpack knocked off East Carolina.

Pittsburgh (2-1) at Syracuse (1-3): The Panthers should win their league opener easily, but the Orange got an ego boost off their first win.

Marshall (3-1) at West Virginia (1-2): The Mountaineers absolutely must wipe out their in-state rival to prevent this season from becoming an unmitigated disaster.

Cincinnati (2-1) at Akron (2-2): The Bearcats play their second straight in-state MAC foe in the Syracuse-killing Zips.

Morgan State (2-1) at Rutgers (0-3): Finally one the Scarlet Knights can win. We think.
