USF has finalized a home-and-home series with Nevada and will travel to Reno on Sept. 8, 2012, filling out its nonconference schedule.
Nevada will play in Tampa on Oct. 3, 2015.
The trip to Reno in 2012 will mark the third time in USF history that it will play west of the Rocky Mountains. The Bulls traveled to San Diego to take on San Diego State in 1999 and they also visited Utah in 2001. Perhaps you can say this is a test run out West with Boise State and San Diego State set to join the Big East in 2013.
“Nevada offers a difficult test for us,” USF head coach Skip Holtz said in a statement. “Offensively, they’ve been very productive under Coach [Chris] Ault and they’ve had a lot of success as a team over the last few years. Going on the road and playing in a tough environment early in the season will give us an opportunity to see where we are and could help us as we move deeper into the schedule.”
Here is the complete 2012 nonconference schedule for USF. This is subject to change, if West Virginia is allowed to leave for the Big 12 in 2012.
